What is Toms?

TOMS, founded in 2006, is a premium footwear brand that is changing the landscape of the fashion industry. With a profound sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to social responsibility, TOMS has pioneered the One for One® model, giving away a pair of shoes for every pair sold.

TOMS, over the years, has evolved into a brand synonymous with conscientious consumerism. It has proved that a single purchase could be a powerful catalyst for driving positive change in society. Today, TOMS has committed a third of its profits to grassroots efforts aimed at improving lives globally.

To date, TOMS has successfully made a positive impact on the lives of more than 100,000,000 individuals, thus leaving an inedible mark of compassion, empowerment, and empathy. TOMS, though, believes that the mission is far from over.

CONS

Recycled Materials

To produce the product line, TOMS makes use of several recycled materials including cotton and rubber. The cotton recycled by TOMS helps keep the waste out of landfills and requires less energy and water compared to traditional cotton.

The recycled polyester is made from plastic bottles used by consumers. This is done through a process that is lighter on greenhouse gas emissions and water. On the other hand, the insoles manufactured by TOMS are made from recycled materials like rubber.

The Custom TOMS insole also includes 25% recycled PU foam and 15% recycled rubber. The Strobel Board, on the other hand, is made from 70-80% recycled polyester. Even the packaging used by TOMS is made from 80% recycled materials.

Sustainable Farming

TOMS, by 2025, has set the target of sourcing 100% sustainable cotton. It has already made significant progress towards the set target by introducing recycled cotton in the most popular shoe Alpargata in 2022.

Apart from its focus on sustainable farming, TOMS is also focused on measuring the carbon footprint. It has set the date of establishing the reduction targets by 2025. The slight delay, due to the pandemic outbreak, has resulted in an extension of the date to 2025.
