What is Patagonia?

Patagonia, the bespoke outdoor clothing and gear brand, not only offers high-quality sportswear but is also committed to environmental sustainability and activism. Being an eco-conscious brand, Patagonia introduced the Worn Wear concept in 2017, allowing consumers to return Patagonia items in good condition in exchange for merchandise credit.

The initiative is promoting the culture of reuse and recycling, which also happens to align with their sustainability goals. In addition to their sustainable practices, Patagonia is also voicing initiatives in environmental and political activism. It has allocated 1% of the total sales to supporting environmental organizations.

With a blend of innovative products, impactful activism, and sustainable practices, Patagonia is continuing to inspire environmentally conscious and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The brand is not just about outfitting adventures but is also about creating a better future for the planet Earth.

PROS

CONS

Recycled Materials

98% of the products available in Patagonia’s line are manufactured with preferred fibers, including recycled materials. Furthermore, Patagonia is also recycling plastic waste to produce gear. It has kept 935 tons of plastic waste by turning discarded fishing nets into outdoor gear.

To reduce plastic waste from landfills and oceans, Patagonia is moving towards 100% renewable and recycled raw materials. By incorporating a blend of synthetic and natural fibers sourced from both pre-consumer and post-consumer waste, Patagonia is actively decreasing the reliance on virgin raw materials and, as a result, mitigating carbon emissions.

By 2025, Patagonia aims to eliminate virgin petroleum fiber and make use of only preferred materials. Furthermore, Patagonia also aims to make use of 100% reusable, home-compostable, or easily recyclable packaging by 2025. Across the entire business, Patagonia targets net zero by 2040.

The robust environmental policy, coupled with animal welfare programs, will help Patagonia to achieve its net zero targets.
