CONS

Ingredients

The brand is known for its focus on using plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients to formulate its products.

Before using any ingredients in their products, Aesop’s Research & Development team carefully examines them. The brand thoroughly researches each ingredient, considering not only their safety and effectiveness but also their approval and regulatory status in global markets.

Aesop pays attention to any past animal testing associated with these ingredients to ensure they meet their standards. This process is standard for all ingredients, whether they are new or have been used before.

sustainability

Packaging

Aesop has chosen plastic material rather than glass, as it believes plastic bottles have a lower carbon footprint compared to glass.

Largely the plastic that is used in their packaging is recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate). Notably, recycled PET includes at least 97% recycled material. The recycled PET used by Aesop is made from household plastic waste.

By the end of 2021, 89% of Aesop’s plastic bottles were created using recycled PET. The goal was to further increase this percentage in 2022.

Carbon Footprint

Aesop has set the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Since 2018, Aesop’s Australian operations have achieved carbon-neutral certification under the Australian Government’s Climate Active scheme.

Aesop’s initial efforts in this area have been extended to encompass emissions from the sourcing of raw materials and the disposal of our products. The brand is also sourcing 100% renewable energy to electrify its offices and stores globally.

Aesop is also working on a climate change action plan to transform into Net Zero initiatives. As part of the plan, the decarbonization efforts will be applied across the supply chain, production processes, and other operations.
